Puerto Rican Men with White Women?

I’m new to Chicago and met a Puerto Rican man 4 months ago. We saw each other and he never took me seriously. While I had feelings for him he treated me badly and I had to let him go. I would try to break it off with him and he kept coming back and prolonged the break-up process. Finally, I had to be pretty harsh with him, and tell it like it is, to get him to leave me alone. Last night I read a university study on “White Puerto Rico Wannabes” and I guess there are a lot of white girls who want to get with Puerto Rican men because they are cool. So these girls/women dress hip-hop, speak Spanglish, and totally adopt the Puerto Rican culture.

This study rang a lot of bells with me. The guy I was with actually asked me to learn Spanish, dye my hair darker (I’m blonde), and act like a lady. I told him that was completely offensive like me asking him to dye his hair blonde and speak English all the time! I do dress and act like a lady; I love going to a Puerto Rican after-hours club and I tend to dress a lot more conservative than native Puerto Rican gals. He was expecting me to dress in stilettos and club attire all the time! I was wondering if this is normal? Do all Puerto Rican men live between the two huge 40 for Puerto Rican metal flags in Chicago. I love Puerto Rican culture, but do all Puerto Rican men expect their white women to toss their own culture aside like that? It’s not that my culture is all that, but I do think I’m pretty damn cool on my own  I also think it would be completely disrespectful for me to act or pretend to be from another culture. So, let me know what’s up…do all Puerto Rican men expect white women to become and act Puerto Rican?

I expect women to act like women. If you are dating some low class, that is what you’ll get, regardless of their ethnic background. I’m married to a white woman but she happens to be Puerto Rican too, which might come as a surprise to you that there are white people in P.R. Too bad your experience has been limited to this kind of individual, be more choosy in your relationships, if you can.

I’m not surprised and know there are white Puerto Ricans. I love the entire rainbow, but after reading this research I was a little blown away. I had seen that he wanted me to change a lot. I have also seen low-class white girls wannabe types that were talked about in the article. I will definitely be more choosy in my relationship.
