Normandie Hotel – Luxury, Culture and History in Rosales
Located at 499 Avenida Munoz Rivera esq. in Rosales, San Juan, the Normandie Hotel combines culture, history and comfort in one neat and convenient package. The hotel’s easy-to-reach location between Old San Juan and the Condado tourist area is only one of its many great features.
The original hotel building was erected in 1942 but was recently renovated to ensure that guests are properly catered for. The hotel spotlights some of the Caribbean’s premier Art Deco architecture and carries many nostalgic reminders of the magnificent S.S. Normandie ocean liner. In some respects, stepping into the hotel is like stepping onto the ship. Sleek lines, soothing colors, elegant furniture and stunning ocean views make you feel like you’re setting sail into a tropical paradise. The building itself has 173 spacious rooms which may have either an ocean or downtown view and as many as 115 of these have been especially designed to cater for business travelers.
The Normandie Hotel has a lot to offer guests. All the guest rooms have high-speed internet access and the indoor public areas have wireless internet access. The Superior Rooms feature a king-sized bed, an oversized desk complete with ergonomic chair, an in-room safe, a 27” flat-screen TV with cable, a CD stereo system and a mini-fridge. The business rooms may have a king-size bed or two double beds. Working and seating areas are separate for better concentration and some rooms even feature balconies and sun-room parlors. The rooms also have coffee makers, hairdryers, an iron and ironing board, 24-hour room service and mini bars. The real ambience and charm of this location, however, is created with dimmer-controlled soothing lighting, vibrant artwork representative of the sea-faring heritage of the hotel, beautiful furnishings and ship-shape staff.
Pet lovers will be happy to learn that the Normandie Hotel is also pet friendly and offers a VIPets service for dogs weighing 40 pounds or less. Pet owners making use of this service will be provided with a comfortable pet bed, designer food and water bowls, a cookie, a doggie toy, clean-up bags and a ‘Do Not Disturb’ dog door tag.
Other great features guests at the Normandie Hotel may enjoy include easy beach access, an outdoor pool complete with spacious sundeck, an exercise room, the N Spa indoor and outdoor spa, the N Lounge complete with outdoor terrace and a resident DJ, the Atrium Café & Wine Bar, and a Casino and Golf course just a short distance away. The Normandie is also close to museums, tourist attractions, great restaurants and the Plaza las Americas shopping mall.
Normandie Hotel – A Cozy Hotel in Rosales
A great choice for people from San Juan or other places in the US who find a sense of comfort in a private and cozy place to relax in between the hustle and bustle of town. (This was a new luxury for San Juan when they moved here in 1968.) The Normandie opened its doors to the world again in 2007 in time for the celebration of the 75th year of the World’s Fair in San Juan, taking place from September 10-14, 2008. (On September 12, 2008, a private ceremony was held to mark the opening.) The hotel opened in 1967 (when it was called Normandie-Ricardo) with an early model featuring wooden balconies and white tile floors on the first floor and red and gold tile on the second. The Normandie Hotel, designed by Enrique Núñez Vinoj, was originally used as the Spanish Royal Palace of San Juan with rooms on the second and third floors, on the ground floor. Now, that is part of the hotel’s modern design. The hotel is currently looking for a new Executive Director.
